Study Guidelines
Study Methodology
Every student should devote sufficient time to his/her studies. There is no magic formula but adopting the right study habits, will keep you free from anxiety and give you a feeling of confidence. ? Study Conditions.
- Avoid all distractions: Do not let your mind wander or be distracted from what you are doing. For this select a quiet place.
- Keep ready all the materials you might require close at hand so that you do not waste time and energy looking for them.
- Study under proper light, as poor light tires the eyes and you lose concentration.
- Have proper ventilations, as fresh air keeps the mind alert.
Make a plan for study
- Keep in mind what you have to study, how much you have to study and the time you have, at your disposal.
- Strike a balance between leisure and study. Organize a timetable in such a way that you have both fun and sufficient time for study. ‘All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy’. Fun is essential because an exhausted mind cannot absorb what it studies.
- Decide when to study and what to study. Make a weekly timetable. It is better to have short frequent period of each subject than long hours for one. Start with interesting and easy lessons/topics and then move on to difficult ones.
- Render total attention to what you are studying. You will absorb more and understand better. 5. Do not study when you are tired. Relax with something light for a short while and come back to your studies. Do not confuse laziness with tiredness.
- Understand the material you have to learn as a whole.
- Re-learn and revise previous lessons frequently. If you have learnt mathematical formula or grammar rules, practice their use, for practice makes one perfect.
- Do not try to learn anything by heart. Read the chapter carefully, understand the ideas and write the essential points.
- Do not learn from notes but get the most important points and put them down in order, under headings and sub-headings.
- During the weekend, set aside some time to revise the week’s work concentrating on points you haven’t yet grasped. Regularity and concentration are the key words for success.
Guidelines for Tests / Examinations
- When the first bell rings, enter the allotted Examination Hall in a single line.
- Maintain silence from the time you enter the Examination Hall, till the end of the exam.
- All articles like books, bags etc. are to be kept outside the Classroom before you take your seats. Check that no papers/ books are with you, or inside the desk.
- Bring only the necessary requirements for the Examination.
- It is not permitted to borrow or lend articles during the Exam.
- Write your Name and Roll number on the Question Paper immediately after receiving it. Nothing else should be written on the Question Paper.
- You will not be allowed to leave the Examination Hall before the end of the allotted time for the paper. Hence, those of you who have completed your paper before time are advised to go through your Answer Sheets again, and see where you can improve on the answers.
- While writing the papers, remember the following norms:-
a. Read the entire Question Paper at least once, before you begin to answer.
b. Check all the pages of the Question Paper and see if you have answered all the required number of questions. In case you feel that there is a printing error (e.g. , a blank section or page) you should contact the Invigilator.
c. Check carefully the question numbers, sections, sub-sections, etc. Read the instructions carefully on the Question Paper and counter-check the written answers.
d. Fill in all the details on the Answer Sheet before starting the paper.
e. Write the question numbers correctly with blue ink, and see that you draw a 11/2 inch margin on the left of every Answer-sheet. Underline the important points.
f. Write the answers neatly and legibly. - Read carefully the answers in order to make sure you have written the correct answer to the question asked, and to correct silly mistakes that may have crept in.
- For all Subjects rough work should be shown on the Answer Sheet itself. For this purpose a margin should be drawn on the right side of the Answer Sheet.
- Ask for a Supplement before you complete writing your answers on the last page of your answer-sheet. This will enable you to save time and to write more.
Points to Remember
- Never omit the lesson or homework assigned. If you do, it is like missing a train that you can never catch afterwards.
- Always revise the work done in class. Do not consider this as a special assignment.
- If memory work is arranged, see that it is completed within the given period.
- Consider tuition as a social evil. Avoid it by concentrating and participating in the class.
- Never postpone what you can do each day.
- Be enthusiastic in doing everything. Live well by doing everything well.
- Show your School diary to your parents daily and get the remarks signed by them.
